FAQs

What is an escape room?

Besides being one of the most fun things to do in Morgantown, escape rooms are a fun live-action entertainment opportunity for small groups. While the task is challenging, the ultimate goal is simple — work together to escape in 60 minutes or less! No doubt you’ll have an adrenaline pumping good time testing your wits as you solve puzzles, decode messages and find clues. Book your room now and see if you have what it takes to work under pressure and escape!

What is the cost?

The price is $30 a person, plus taxes and fees.

Do you offer discounts?

We do offer a few different discounts:
  • If you are having or celebrating a birthday within 7 days of your scheduled game date, use the code BIRTHDAY50 (shared/public game) or HAPPYBIRTHDAY (private game) to receive $15.00 off one persons ticket.
  • WVU Medicine employees, veterans, healthcare workers, and college students play for $25 + tax. Simply choose the correct demographic at checkout to receive the discount.
  • We also offer a 10% large group discount for teams booking more than 25 players, but you've gotta call in to redeem this one.

How do I book a game?

Games can be booked right here on our website. You may also call in to make your reservation, but must be comfortable giving your card information over the phone as all experiences are pre-paid. Our Game Masters are not present at our facility unless they have a game booked. Because of this, our games are typically made unavailable for booking about 1.5-2 hours before their start time.

Do you accept walk-ins?

Yes and no. We are open by appointment only - so there is only someone at the shop when we have a game booked. Sometimes you may get lucky and catch us while there is a game booked, but we suggest booking your game in advance to avoid any inconvenience.

Do I need to book my game in advance or the day of?

We strongly encourage advance booking if you want to guarantee your spot. Waiting until the “day of” your experience will most likely result in your spot already being taken. Also, our Game Masters are not even present at our facility unless they have a game booked - so if you just show up without a reservation, there is a good chance you'll arrive to an empty shop and locked door. Our games are typically made unavailable for booking about 1.5-2 hours before their start time.

Do you accept donation requests?

We do often donate to charitable causes within the community! But as you can imagine, we receive multiple requests every month. To ensure we are able to accommodate all of these requests, our policy for donation requests is as follows:

We will donate the same amount that you are willing to buy. For example: you purchase a gift card for two people and we will donate a gift card for two people. You would then be able to raffle off either a single four-person game or 2 two-person games. We can do this in any increments you desire.

Will I be playing with people I don’t know?

Well, that's kind of up to you. We do offer the choice between booking a private or public (shared) game. If you choose to book a private game, it's just you and your crew for the entire 60 minutes! We also offer a $30 discount on private rooms. However, many people tell us that some of their favorite escape experiences are when they play with people they don’t know. So go ahead - try it! It’s a great way to make new friends... and fast!

What’s the recommended age for the escape experience?

An escape room is designed to be a challenging experience that requires teamwork for success. Therefore, we recommend our games for those 14 and older due to the complexity of the puzzles, riddles and clues. We have seen children as young as 10 years old do well with the game as long as they are playing with a team that consists primarily of adults. Please use your own discretion. Players who are 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Can I bring my baby or young child?

We discourage playing the game and bringing small children. The game involves so much concentration and high-energy interaction that little folks get lost in the shuffle. Unfortunately, we’ve seen experiences at other escape rooms where distracted parents permitted young children to cry, run about, and play with clues — making problem-solving difficult for others. We want our escape room to be a GREAT experience for everyone involved. So, we encourage you to get a sitter for the evening while you enjoy one of the best escape rooms around! That said, if you aren't able to find accomodations for the evening, we can always make it work - just be sure you have someone assigned to watch them while in the room.

Do you host team building opportunities, birthday parties and special events?

Yes, we do! Please use our “Contact Us” form on the website or email us at info@morgantownescaperoom.com and provide us your name, contact information and details about your desired event.

If we are having a birthday celebration, can we bring a cake? Do you have a private room for parties?

Unfortunately we do not have the space required for celebrating with cake, ice cream, and presents. 
Launch Pad Trampoline Park is conveniently located right behind us and is the perfect place for indoor birthday parties for boys, girls, kids and teens. They've got FUN covered for everyone! Let their personal party hosts take the stress of party planning off your hands. Their team handles everything from set-up to entertainment and cleanup. All you have to do is show up and enjoy your special day.

What time should I arrive?

You should plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early. The clock begins ticking and your game will start promptly at your scheduled time. We are unable to delay the start of games - they will start with or without you if other players are booked into the same game.

How long will I be there?

The entire experience at the Morgantown Escape Room should take about 80 minutes — this includes arriving 15 minutes early, spending 60 minutes (or less if you escape early) in the game room, and then 5 minutes for debriefing and photo opportunities.

Are we really locked in the room?

Yes and no. Yes, you are locked in the room. However, for safety purposes, you will have the ability to quickly exit the room at anytime for any reason by using the emergency escape key located by the game's door.

Do you offer gift cards/vouchers/certificates?

Yes! We are happy to offer gift cards and certificates to our customers. A gift card that's redeemable for one of our escape room experiences make for a great birthday gift or stocking stuffer! To purchase a gift voucher, click here.

Do you offer refunds?

Morgantown Escape Room has a strict no refund policy. If you are unable to keep your reservation as scheduled, please notify us ASAP and we will get your game rescheduled to a time that works for you, or issue you a voucher of equal value for a future reservation to be used within 14 calendar days. NO voucher or refund will be given to those who fail to show up or contact us to reschedule.
Please make sure you are on time for your game experience. We recommend that you arrive 15 minutes early as we are unable to delay the start of games for tardy guests. The clock begins ticking at your exact start time.

Is this a game for those who are “super intelligent?”

No, certainly not. While super-hero-like brain power is plus, an escape room experience is for everyone! And, to be successful, you have to work together — using the varied strengths and observation skills of everyone on your team.

What’s the history of escape room games?

The concept initially started with online games where players tried to find clues to escape a virtual room. Live-action game rooms are a relatively new concept with the first rooms emerging only about 10 years ago in several Asian cities. Today, thanks to the outrageous, interactive fun of this real-life puzzling adventure, escape rooms are found all across Europe and in major American cities. Fun Fact: We were the very first live escape room to open up in West Virginia, all the way back in the fall of 2015.

Where are you located?

We’re located at 12 Commerce Drive, Westover, WV 26501 -- located in the building beside the McDonald’s on Fairmont Road (Rt. 19), across from the Taco Bell, and below Launch Pad Trampoline Park. If you’re traveling I-79, you’ll get off at Exit 152, drive into Westover  (towards the gas stations, away from the Morgantown Mall), and turn into the WesMon Plaza. We'll be on the left in the parking lot with the Haught Diggity Dogs sign. If you end up down in the Big Lots parking lot, you've gone just a little too far into the plaza, turn around and we will be on the right!

We do offer team building experiences for larger groups during the week. To accomodate, we split teams into two (or more, if necessary) groups and have them play in both games simultaneously. We can accommodate up to 19 players at one time between both games. Bringing a team larger than that? We can host back-to-back games as well. We also offer a 10% large group discount to groups of 25 player or more!
